In light of the recent terrorist attacks on Mumbai (Bombay), Indians are demanding action, right now. "Enough already," is what they are saying. If the US can have change, by the electing Obama, so can we.
Thousands gathered at Gate of India (I almost wrote Times Square) to demand action. Shock and grief hangs around the financial center of India and the world, though Mumbaikers or Bombayiets are going about their lives as we did here after 9/11.
Here is something I just read:
India was warned in mid-October by the US of a possible attack against visiting tourists. What happened to that warning? Where did things go wrong? Why was there no action is what Indians worldwide want to know.
This morning it was good to hear Shashi Tharoor, a former UN under-secretary general and the author of many books on India, say that Hindus and Muslims in India are uniting against terrorism, that there is no backlash against Muslims. He said these attacks on India were different to others in India. Ironically enough the terrorists chose to come in through Gate Way of India.
I hope none of this nonsense ever happens again. Meanwhile, once again, I request my readers let me know how we can make a difference in India, in the world, stop terrorism, and show the bravery of those living in Bombay, of those directly affected by the horrendous, cowardly acts on the innocent. There is never an excuse for terrorism.
